The Princely Wine Cellar of the Prince of Liechtenstein Foundation include the Hofkellerei in Wilfersdorf and the Hofkellerei in Vaduz, the latter with its own wine library and the speciality restaurant Torkel.
100% Zweigelt / Alcohol: 11,9%
Zweigelt is a relatively new cultivar developed by the Education and Research Center in Klosterneuburg. It dates back to 1922 and was named after its grower, F. Zweigelt. This variety is highly adaptable, yet prefers deep soils. Its yields must be controlled, the best results being obtained at yields of about 500 g/m2.
The wines have intense, deep colors; they offer aromas redolent of berry and spice; on the palate, they are smooth and supple, with appealing tannins.
The grapes were harvested under cool and dry weather conditions. After destemming, they were left on the skins for one hour, then pressed using a pneumatic tank press, and fermented at 20°C. After this, malolactic fermentation, aging and storing took place in stainless steel vats.
